Founded in 1885, the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is a science and engineering research university located in Rapid City, South Dakota, offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. For the 2013-1014 academic year,  the university enrolls 2,640 students from 45 states and 37 countries, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1. The average starting salary for graduates is $62,400 with a 98 percent placement rate.

Western Dakota Tech is the only technical institute that serves the western South Dakota region. WDT offers more than 30 programs in a variety of fields, including Business and Computers, Construction Trades, Health Services, Legal and Public Services, Manufacturing and Mechanical Trades, and Science and Technology. More than 98 percent of WDT’s most recent graduates are working, continuing 
 their education, or serving in the military, and 90 percent remain in South Dakota. Bottom line: our graduates are successful.

The Corporate Education Center with Western Dakota Tech. offers short-term classes, custom training, events, seminars, career programs, and more to help companies train employees and to help students be successful in new and current careers.  The Corporate Education Center can customize training events for any company. The curricular offerings include degrees in accounting, general education studies, information technology, paralegal studies, medical assisting, medical administrative assistant, management, business administration, therapeutic massage, health care management, nursing, organizational leadership, veterinary technology, and many others.

National American University is a regionally accredited, multi-campus institution of higher learning offering associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs in technical and professional fields.  In 1941, NAU opened its first campus in Rapid City, South Dakota, and has since grown to multiple locations throughout the central United States, near major cities like Minneapolis, Denver, Dallas, Austin, and Kansas City. Today, NAU offers traditional degree programs, online college degrees, and hybrid formats, which provide students the increased flexibility to take courses at times and places convenient to their busy lifestyles.

Oglala Lakota College is committed to continuous improvement and is creating Oglala Lakota University through outstanding teaching, research, community service, and assessment.

Career Learning Center
The Career Learning Center of the Black Hills (CLC), an affiliate of Black Hills Special Services Cooperative, offers a variety of education, training and employment services. Experienced career counseling staff assists individuals of all ages in determining what area of employment fits their interest, aptitude and skills. Education and training services at the CLC include basic education, GED preparation, English as a Second Language, basic and advanced computer training, and medical billing and coding. Financial assistance may be available for education and training opportunities through the CLC. The CLC also offers parenting education and developmental screening for babies, age birth to three years. Finally, the Career Learning Center has the largest community education program in the state of South Dakota with over 100 class offerings each fall and spring.
